diet, Health

Yesterday I  mainly ate my protein and fruit. Today I woke up to a loss of .8 lbs. I am now 186.6. On Saturday, before my cheat, I was 186.8. Three days after my cheat, I am finally below my “pre-cheat” weight by.2 lbs. Based on this, my assumption is that after a cheat, it will take 3-4 days of clean eating to get back on track and start losing again. This whole cheat thing has probably cost me about 2 lbs. Saturday’s eating/cheating just wasn’t worth it.

I must say, though, that I am proud that I didn’t run this time. My first few days on the diet, I cheated, then gave up. This time, I accepted my punishment (weight gain) and stayed on plan. No more giving up for me!!!

On a positive note, I’ve completed seven days on my 30 day challenges. Yesterday, I did 90 squats. I still feel no pain…and I know I’m doing them correctly. The squat has always been one of my favorite exercises. I held my plank for 30 seconds. It was hard, but I did it! Me…who initially struggled with a 12 second plank can now hold it for 30 seconds!

I think I’m going to add some crunches and lower ab exercises to do more work on my pouch.

Lessons learned:

– After a cheat, eat clean moving forward. DO NOT GIVE UP!

– Expect 3-4 days until your body readjusts and begins to lose again.

See you tomorrow! Grace and peace…

VLCD 14 (Week 2 and Mini Steak Day Results)

Yesterday I was up 1.8 lbs due to my eating…er…cheating at my inlaw’s anniversary party on Saturday night. So I decided to do a “mini steak day”. (See VLCD 13 for details.) I ate 7 oz (not 3.5 oz) of steak and a tomato sprinkled with ACV and cilantro. As much as I like beef (my favorite) I notice that I feel better when I don’t eat it.

I went to the scale for my end of Week 2 weigh in. I lost only one of the 1.8 lbs I gained 😢. I guess it’s better than nothing. It’s hard to celebrate this loss when it came after a gain.

Here are my totals for Week 2;

VLCD 8 July 12 – 189.2 (-1.2)

VLCD 9 July 13 – 188.6 (-0.6)

VLCD 10 July 14 – 188.0 (-0.6)

VLCD 11 July 15 – 187.6 (-0.4)

VLCD 12 July 16 – 186.6 (-1.0)

VLCD 13 July 17 – 188.4 (+1.8) 😢

VLCD 14 July 18 – 187.4 (-1.0)

WEEK 2 NET LOSS = 3.0 lbs.

As you can see, I lost every day with the exception of the day I ate at the anniversary party. Had I not done so, I would have had at least a 5.0 lb loss this week. Instead, my total loss is only 8.4 lbs. I could cry!!!

Nonetheless, I remain committed. I ate on plan yesterday and today, and I’m expecting good results tomorrow.

Egad! I woke up to a 1.8 weight gain. Yesterday I went to my mother and father-in-law’s 50th anniversary celebration dinner. I deliberately didn’t eat beforehand so I could enjoy the festivities with the rest of the family. My plan was to have chicken and salad. THERE WAS NO SALAD! Isn’t salad a staple at a dinner? In fact, there were no vegetables at all! WTH? There was only broccoli in some type of pasta dish. Unbelievable! I ate some chicken francaise (there was no baked), a small piece of beef, some shrimp stuffed with crab, and a teenie bit of pasta. I was stuffed.

When the cake came out, I declined. It was made clear that everyone was expected to take a piece of cake to celebrate the honorees. I took a sliver. I drank only seltzer water all day.

I am devastated by the gain, but not surprised. This was technically a cheat. So today, I’ve opted to do a mini steak day to hopefully lose what I gained and continue losing thereafter.

What will I eat on this mini steak day???

  • Only coffee or tea for breakfast as usual
  • Lots of water, coffee and/or tea throughout the rest of the day
  • No lunch
  • For dinner, 100 g of steak  with a serving of tomatoes

From what I researched, that should bring about a loss. So now, I’m resting in bed after a beautiful morning in church, enjoying a Netflix movie, and sipping on a large coffee. I have a big bottle of seltzer water nearby. Later, I’ll grill a steak and tomato on my George Foreman grill.

Praying for a loss to end Week 2. Until tomorrow…

Today, I was not only excited about weighing in, but also about taking my measurements. I decided to visit the scale first. I crossed my fingers and stepped on. It showed a loss of exactly 1 lb. I was thrilled! While I’ve been losing steadily each day, today is only the third day I’ve lost at least a pound. What was different yesterday? For lunch I ate grilled tilapia, a lettuce salad, and a sliced apple sprinkled with cinnamon. At dinner, I had no appetite for a vegetable. I ate my grilled shrimp and Melba toast and a half grapefruit sprinkled with stevia. Could skipping my vegetable have anything to do with it? One hcg forum suggested skipping vegetables to increase weight loss. There are days I force myself to eat a second vegetable. From now on, if I don’t want it, I won’t eat it. However, I am not going to starve myself. If I’m hungry, I’m going to eat my vegetables. I believe that despite the advice given on hcg websites and forums, at some point, common sense must prevail. I am not going to make myself sick in my effort to lose weight.

Now it was time to take my measurements. I took them for the first time last Saturday and posted them. I promised to take and post them every Saturday moving forward while on this diet. So….today’s my day. Here are my current measurements with inches lost in parentheses:

Neck 13 1/2″ (-1/4″)

Chest 37 1/2″ (-1/2″)

Left upper arm 14 1/4″ (-1/2″)

Right upper arm 14 3/4″ (-1/4″)

Waist 35 1/2″ (-1/2″)

Hips 45 1/2″ (-3/4″)

Left upper thigh 29 1/4″ (-1/4″)

Right upper thigh 29 3/4″ (-3/4″)

Left lower thigh 23 3/4″ (-3/4″)

Right lower thigh 24 1/4″ (-3/4″)

Left knee 16 1/4″ (-2.0″)

Right knee 16 3/4″ (-2 3/4)

Left calf 17″ (-0)

Right calf 17″ (-1/2″)

That’s a total loss of 10 1/2″!!! AMAZING!!! I’m stunned to see how much I lost in my lower body – and that’s where I truly need to lose. And who knew one could lose so much in the knees? That was totally unexpected! I don’t expect to lose much in my calves. I inherited small calves (and skinny ankles) from my dad’s side of the family. I see now why measuring is so important. That is a major loss I would have otherwise been unable to celebrate. Between today’s measurements and my 1 lb loss, I am so encouraged. This diet is clearly working.

Later today, I’m going to my mother and father-in-law’s 50th anniversary celebration. I am going to do my best to be reasonable in my eating and not interfere with the progress I’m making. It’s not in a restaurant, but in my sister-in-law’s home. However, the event is being catered. Chicken is safe (as long as it isn’t fried) and I’m sure there will be salad. I’ll take a sliced apple for my dessert while others are eating cake.

I’ll certainly tell you all about it tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Grace and peace,

For the past few days, I had been feeling a little “backed up”. I increased my water intake and it didn’t help. A few of the HCG forums suggested a laxative tea called Smooth Move.

I bought a box at the local grocery store.  It is a senna-based herbal tea that helps what’s inside to move out smoothly. I made a cup, steeped it in hot water for about 15 min, then drank it last night before going to bed. About eight hours later, I had to go! Everything moved smoothly…and quickly.

The Smooth Move tea definitely did its job. I recommend it for when you’re bloated, uncomfortable, and in need of a BM. It’s best to take it overnight and when you’re near your own bathroom. Do not take it when you have to be somewhere early in the morning. When Smooth Move works, it doesn’t care where you are and there’s no holding it until a more convenient time. I literally fled like Speedy Gonzales from my bedroom…and almost didn’t make it!

I read on one forum how there are people who drink this tea every night in an effort to increase weight loss. However, I don’t think it’s designed for that and further, it just doesn’t sound safe to me. I plan to use it only when I’m uncomfortable and haven’t had a BM in a few days.

After my experience with Smooth Move this morning, I excitedly hopped on the scale. I figured that since I was completely empty, I would have a loss of at least a pound. Not! The scale didn’t care about Smooth Move and showed a loss of only 0.4 lbs. But it’s a loss, so I’ll take it.

As some of you know, I’ve been doing a squat challenge as well as a plank challenge. I’ve completed three days and I don’t have any aches and pains. Yesterday, I had to hold my plank for 15 seconds and I had to do 75 squats. The squats were easier than the planks for me. I HATE PLANKS! Nonetheless, I’ve heard that it’s a great exercise to strengthen the core, so I will persevere. I bought some 2 lb weighted gloves from a store called Five and Below (where everything costs $5 or less) and did arm exercises for my biceps and triceps. I also wore these gloves when I did my squats. I figure if I’m going to lose pounds and inches, I should try to tone at the same time.

I’ll check in tomorrow. Until then…

VLCD 10 (Pounds AND Inches)

Today, I truly learned why this diet expects us to monitor losses in pounds and inches. I weighed myself this morning and lost another 0.6 lbs. I wished for a greater loss. My current total weight loss is less than 10 lbs after completing 10 full very low carb days on HCG 1234. While I know I’m considered in the average weight loss range…and by those standards, I’m doing well, I can’t help but wonder what’s going on. My mind tells me I should have a higher total weight loss.

So today, I decided to “see” myself. I put on the same dress I wore when I posted photos on VLCD 1 and posed in the same positions. I can see a difference after only 10 days!!! While my scale is not showing great losses, the diet is working and I am losing. Take a look at these photos:

I’m not losing a lot of pounds, but the photos show that I’m clearly losing inches. My hips are smaller and my stomach is not protruding as much. I don’t look like a big pear now…I’m a smaller pear 😜.

My body is changing and I am thrilled!

Recently, someone told me that I looked like I was losing weight. I quickly responded, “No I haven’t.” I think I was so focused on how far I had to go that I couldn’t see how far I had come. Moving forward, I will consider both pounds and inches and will look back at the road traveled instead of being discouraged by the road ahead of me.

I plan to take and post an updated photo every so often…probably every 10 days. And remember, my measurement day is coming up on Saturday. I’m praying for a huge loss in inches then.

Lessons learned:

  • Take photos of yourself periodically and compare them so you can see and celebrate your own progress. Try to wear the same clothes and stand in the same position.

I feel pretty good right now. Now it’s time for lunch: I have grilled Cajun shrimp over fresh spinach leaves in an ACV dressing.
